The Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Himalayan College of Nursing and the Nursing Services Department, Jolly Grant, observed World Heart Day with an awareness programme aimed at promoting heart health and encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles.
The awareness programme, organised at the Cardiology OPD at HIMS Jolly Grant, highlighted the importance of preventive measures and healthy lifestyle practices. Chief Guest Dr Hem Chandra, Director (Hospital Services), said that changing lifestyles and irregular routines make it important to pay greater attention to heart health. He emphasised that a balanced diet, regular physical activity and stress management play an important role in maintaining a healthy heart. He encouraged people to make positive changes to their daily routines to reduce the risk of heart-related diseases.
Dr Anupam Agrawal said that timely identification of risk factors is essential for preventing cardiovascular diseases. Head of the Department Dr Anurag Rawat highlighted the important role of educational institutions and healthcare professionals in creating awareness about heart health. He said that health messages can be taken to the wider community through students, encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Dr Chandra Mohan Belwal emphasised that both awareness and caution are important for preventing heart diseases. He stressed the need for regular health check-ups and keeping risk factors such as blood pressure and diabetes under control. Dr Manmohan Singh said that staying physically active is essential for maintaining a healthy heart.
As part of the programme, students of the Himalayan College of Nursing presented a street play highlighting heart disease prevention and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Through the performance, students effectively portrayed the adverse effects of unhealthy eating habits, physical inactivity and irregular routines.
A poster exhibition was also organised, where students presented important information on maintaining heart health, balanced nutrition, regular exercise and prevention of heart diseases.
