Overview

MHA at HIMS is a 2-year specialized course which aims at developing knowledge & competencies on business management & healthcare administration, making it one of the premier MHA colleges in India. The program, offered by one of the leading hospital management colleges in India, is associated with Himalayan Hospital which is NABH accredited & includes a Cancer hospital & NABL accredited labs. The students are trained for Hospital Operations, Public health, Basic Medical Sciences, Hospital Information system, etc. Under their training students are taught how to deal with economic, social, ethical, political, legal and operational challenges that hospital managers and administrators face in running healthcare facilities.

The program also provides students an exposure to various departments of hospital and are guided, mentored & trained by highly experienced faculty to sharpen their expertise. On successful completion of the course, students are capable of dealing with project planning, finance, marketing and operations that are relevant to the healthcare industry.

 Professor (Dr) Hem Chandra

Details: Professor (Dr) Hem Chandra a prominent figure in Hospital Administration in India. With 29 years of service at SGPGI Lucknow, he held roles such as Head of the Department of Hospital Administration and Medical Superintendent. In 2018, he became the first hospital administrator to serve as Vice-Chancellor of HNB Uttarakhand Medical Education University, establishing the new campus at SelaQui, Dehradun. Currently, he is the Advisor to the Honorable President at SRHU and Director of Hospital Services, leading Himalayan Hospital, Jolly Grant, and the Master of Hospital Administration Program. His academic achievements include an MHA from AIIMS Delhi, an MPhil from BITS Pilani, a PhD, and a DLitt from Lucknow University. Dr Chandra has published over 180 specialty papers, presented more than 70, authored 12 books, and organized over 120 scientific events. He is the only Hospital Administrator awarded FRCP (Glasgow, Edinburgh & London) and the first elected Fellow of All India Management Association (FAIMA). His numerous accolades include the UP Ratan Award, Uttarakhand Gaurav Award, and Best VC of the Year Award 2021.

Details: Dr (Brig) RS Saini has been the Head of the Department of Hospital Administration since 2018 and serves as the Deputy Medical Superintendent at Himalayan Hospital, Jolly Grant, Dehradun. He earned his MD in Hospital Administration from AFMC, Pune University, in 1996 and has extensive experience in various Army Medical establishments. Dr Saini has leveraged his expertise to implement a CBCS-compliant MHA program focused on providing students with practical hospital experience. He also launched a PhD program in Hospital Administration and established the Regional Chapter of the Academy of Hospital Administration in 2021. With strong leadership skills and a talent for motivating students, Dr Saini has facilitated numerous successful placements for MHA graduates.

Dr (Brig) DC Joshi(Retd)

Details: Dr (Brig) Dinesh C. Joshi served in the Army for 34 years, gaining diverse clinical and geographical experience in India and abroad. Early on, he managed level I and II hospitals in counterinsurgency operations and tough terrains in India and Sri Lanka. Later, he became CEO of secondary and tertiary care hospitals, including Military Hospital Jodhpur, showing exemplary courage during the Sikkim earthquake and Rajasthan flash floods, earning four Army Chief's commendations and the Sena Medal. He commanded a level III hospital with a UN peacekeeping mission in the DRC, receiving the UN Force Commander's commendation. He completed a prestigious executive course in Hawaii, USA, and earned his MD in Hospital Administration from AFMC Pune. He planned and designed hospitals like Command Hospital Pune, Military Hospital Shimla, and Military Hospital Jodhpur, and served as an instructor at Officers Training College Lucknow and Dean of Army Institute of Paramedical Sciences. Since November 2021, Dr Joshi has been Professor in the Department of Hospital Administration and Deputy Medical Superintendent at Himalayan Hospital, SRHU. He is a respected postgraduate teacher and guide in Hospital and Health Administration.

Shweta Samant

Details: Shweta Samant holds a postgraduate degree in Hospital and Health Management from IIHMR Delhi. She served as an Assistant Hospital Administrator at Himalayan Hospital, Jolly Grant, gaining experience in hospital operations, quality improvement, and policy formulation. After qualifying for the NET examination, she transitioned to academia and is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Hospital Administration at SRHU. She helped establish the department in 2018 and mentors MHA students, supervising their dissertations and projects. She also enhances student development through communication skills training, job placement preparation, and hospital-based projects. Additionally, Shweta serves as the Program Coordinator for the MHA program and assists the Quality team at Himalayan Hospital with data collection, analysis, and audits. Dr. Kathleen M. McKeehan

Dr. Kathleen M. McKeehan is a highly regarded American nursing leader and researcher who has dedicated decades to advancing nursing education and clinical practices at the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT) and Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) in Dehradun, India. Dr. Sanjeev Chopra (IAS Retd.)

Dr. Sanjeev Chopra (IAS Retd.) is a distinguished former Indian Administrative Service officer (1985 batch, West Bengal cadre), historian, and author. He is most widely recognised for his tenure as the Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) from 2019 until his retirement in March 2021. Throughout his 36-year bureaucratic career, he served in high-profile roles, including Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal and Secretary of Industrial Development in Uttarakhand.

Since retiring, Dr. Chopra has emerged as a prominent literary figure and public intellectual. He is the Founder and Festival Director of Valley of Words, an international literature and arts festival based in Dehradun. An acclaimed author, his works include We, the People of the States of Bharat: The Making and Remaking of India’s Internal Boundaries (2022) and The Great Conciliator: Lal Bahadur Shastri and the Transformation of India (2025).

Prof. Graham Roy Ball

Prof. Graham Roy Ball, FRSB, is a distinguished expert in bioinformatics and computational systems biology. He currently serves as a Professor at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), where he is the Director of the Medical Technology Research Centre. He also holds a significant role as the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Intelligent OMICS Ltd, a company specializing in AI-driven biomedical discovery.

Prof. Ball's work focuses on applying Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and machine learning to solve complex biological problems. His research spans cancer systems biology, drug discovery, and the development of "molecular digital twins" for disease states. He is particularly noted for his work on the Nottingham Prognostic Index Plus (NPI+), a system that uses biomarkers to improve breast cancer patient stratification.

Dr. Vinay Nadkarni

Dr. Vinay Nadkarni, MD, MS, is a world-renowned leader in pediatric critical care and resuscitation science. He serves as a Professor and Endowed Chair at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Mr. Sudhir Chandra Nautiyal

Mr. Sudhir Chandra Nautiyal is a highly accomplished civil servant and technocrat who served an illustrious 29-year tenure in the Industries Department of the Government of Uttarakhand. Prof. Prabhu Narayan Mishra

Prof. Prabhu Narayan Mishra is a renowned Management Guru and academician with over 40 years of experience in teaching, research, and consulting. Prof. Kiran Katoch

Prof. Kiran Katoch is a highly respected academic researcher and medical scientist who served as the Director of the National JALMA Institute for Leprosy and Other Mycobacterial Diseases (NJILOMD) in Agra. With over four decades of experience, she has been a leading figure in the research and treatment of leprosy and tuberculosis in India. Her work is characterized by a unique focus on bridging clinical medicine with laboratory research to improve patient outcomes in mycobacterial infections.

A prolific scientist, Prof. Katoch has authored or co-authored over 150 research publications in prestigious national and international journals. Dr. Mohan Swami is a distinguished physician, entrepreneur, and educational visionary who currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor of Perdana University, Malaysia. Swami Avdheshanand is one of India’s most influential spiritual leaders and the Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of the Juna Akhara, the largest order of Hindu monks.
