The Department of Physiology, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, under Swami Rama Himalayan University, successfully organized a “World Hypertension Day Quiz Competition” on 16/05/2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at LT-2, HIMS.
The event was conducted for the first-year MBBS students with the objective of creating awareness regarding hypertension and promoting active learning through academic competition and student participation.
The program was graced by the presence of Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Ashok Kumar Deorari, Vice Principal UG Dr. S. S. Bist, and Vice Principal Allied Healthcare & Sciences Dr. Anuradha Kusum, Dr. Kiran Bhat, Dr. Alka Aggarwal, Dr. Rhotagi, Dr. A.K. Shrivastava along with all the faculty members of the Department of Physiology, Dr. Brijesh Purwar, Dr. Jyoti Dvivedi, Dr. Yogesh Saxena, Dr. Anupama Nautiyal whose presence added significance to the occasion.
The event commenced with an enlightening note by Dr. Ashok Kumar Deorari on the significance of World Hypertension Day and the growing need for awareness regarding hypertension and lifestyle modification. The welcome address was delivered by Professor and HOD Dr. Abha Shrivastava, who welcomed all dignitaries, faculty members, and students to the event.
The quiz competition was conducted by Dr. Ramkumar S and Dr. Debarshi Nandi in four exciting rounds covering various aspects of hypertension, cardiovascular physiology, diagnosis, management, and preventive strategies. Audience interaction rounds were also conducted to enhance awareness among students regarding hypertension and healthy lifestyle practices.
The participants enthusiastically and actively participated throughout the event, making the competition highly engaging and informative. Following the completion of the quiz rounds, prize distribution was conducted in which all participants were awarded certificates of participation. Among the four participating teams, one team emerged as the winner – The silent Killers
( Shaurya Aggarwal & Sofiya Naaz) while another team – Cardiac Champions
( Kavyansh Mandhyan & Avni Lakra) secured the runner-up position.
The event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Jyoti Dvivedi. The program ended with the National Anthem followed by a group photograph with the participants, faculty members, and dignitaries.
The event was a great success and effectively fulfilled its objective of spreading awareness regarding hypertension among medical students through an interactive and educational platform.
