Event Name: Workshop on “Orange Data Mining Tool”
Date: 18th April 2026
Participants: Faculty Members from School of Science & Technology, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Resource Person: Dr. Anupama Mishra, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, School of Science & Technology, Swami Rama Himalayan University
Venue: Center of Excellence, School of Science & Technology
Objective: The main objectives of the outreach activity are:
Summary: The workshop commenced with an introduction to the importance of data science in modern academia and research. Participants were then introduced to the Orange tool and its visual programming interface. The session progressed with hands-on activities where participants learned to import datasets and perform preprocessing tasks such as handling missing values and selecting relevant features. Visualization techniques were demonstrated using plots and graphs to help participants understand data distribution and relationships. Subsequently, participants were guided in building machine learning models including Decision Tree, Logistic Regression, and Random Forest using Orange workflows. Emphasis was placed on understanding how models learn from data and how predictions are generated. The session also covered model evaluation techniques such as confusion matrix, accuracy, and ROC analysis, enabling participants to assess model performance effectively. The workshop concluded with a practical demonstration and interactive discussion.
