Central Research Facilities

Over the years, Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), through its seed grant mechanism under R & D funding has been upscaling several facilities leading to the establishment of seven Advanced Research Facilities/Centers of Excellence to strengthen translational and interdisciplinary research across medical, biological, pharmaceutical and other technological domains. These facilities are envisioned to foster innovation, support seed research, and build capacity for high-impact studies addressing regional, national, and global challenges. Each research facility provides state-of-the-art infrastructure and expert mentorship to encourage collaboration between clinicians, scientists, technologists and start-ups. Together, they create a vibrant ecosystem where ideas are nurtured into solutions that contribute to human health, sustainable development, and societal well-being. The seven research facilities are:
  1. Clinical Trial Centre: Advancing evidence-based medicine through ethically governed clinical trials focused on Himalayan populations and regional health priorities such as diabetes, cancer, and infectious diseases.
  2. Himalayan Central Diagnostics and Research Centre: Integrating diagnostics, molecular biology, and biomedical research to develop precision tools for early disease detection and management.
  3. Centre of Excellence for Cancer Biology and Immunology: Dedicated to understanding cancer pathogenesis and developing innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches through molecular, immunological, and translational studies.
  4. Centre of Excellence in Advanced Molecular Biology (Omics Laboratory): A multidisciplinary platform for genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics research aimed at understanding molecular mechanisms of diseases and environmental interactions.
  5. Centre of Excellence in Plant Biotechnology: Promoting sustainable biotechnology solutions through plant tissue culture, phytochemical analysis, and molecular breeding for medicinal and agricultural innovation.
  6. AI & Data Insights Centre of Excellence: Harnessing artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics for applications in healthcare, agriculture, disaster management, and social development.
  7. Skill & Simulation Centre: Providing experiential learning environments using high-fidelity simulation technologies to enhance clinical, technical, and decision-making skills among healthcare professionals.
These facilities embody SRHU’s vision of becoming a research-driven university, creating pathways from laboratory to community impact through innovation, collaboration, and excellence in research. The table below presents the seed grant projects sanctioned to the above-mentioned research facilities during 2024-25, which has resulted into their development and modernization taking to the next level. The research seed grant amounted to about Rs 800.00 Lakh for upgradation of these units.

Central Diagnostic Laboratory is housed in a dedicated four storied building and has various labs under its umbrella and caters to investigations of Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry, Serology, Virology, Mycology, Bacteriology, arasitology, Immunology, Histopathology, Cytopathology, Immunohistochemistry etc. Besides this, advanced investigations like Flow cytometery, RT-PCR along with high-tech Molecular Lab tests & Plasma Therapy for COVID-19 are readily available for patients as well as students learning. This building has a unique pneumatic-chute system for instant transfer of blood samples from various wards of Himalayan Hospital. The University also has a central research lab to facilitate student research and learning.
