UBI-Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Initiatives

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is a flagship programme of the Government of India aimed at leveraging the knowledge and resources of higher educational institutions for the holistic development of rural communities. Under this initiative, RDI-SRHU actively engages with adopted villages to address key challenges related to health, sanitation, environment, awareness, and community empowerment through a participatory and sustainable approach.
The following are the key highlights of activities undertaken under UBA.

Adoption of Villages

Adopted five villages in Doiwala Block—Markham Grant, Dudhali, Raiwala, Pratit Nagar, and Gohri Mafi. Baseline surveys and field assessments were conducted to identify socio-economic, health, sanitation, and gender-related challenges.

Community-Centric Planning

Regular meetings and consultations were held with Gram Pradhans, ASHA facilitators, and ASHA workers to ensure participatory planning aligned with local needs and priorities.

Community Health Interventions

Health camps were organized focusing on preventive healthcare, basic medical check-ups, early diagnosis, and medical counselling for community members. : Active participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups was ensured, fostering community ownership and trust in institutional intervention.

Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM)

Menstrual Hygiene Management training programmes were conducted for women and adolescent girls to promote hygienic practices, safe usage and disposal of sanitary materials, and reduction of social stigma.

Sanitation & Environmental Sustainability

Community-led initiatives were undertaken to promote cleanliness, plastic waste management, waste segregation, water conservation, and tree plantation.

Student & Faculty Involvement

Students and faculty members actively participated in surveys, field visits, awareness programmes, and solution-oriented activities, strengthening experiential learning.

Outcomes & Impact

The initiatives resulted in improved health awareness, better sanitation practices, enhanced community participation, and stronger academic–community linkages.

Alignment with National Vision

All activities were aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, contributing to inclusive, sustainable, and participatory rural development.
