The Master of Science in Nursing (M.Sc. Nursing) is considered to be an advanced degree that focuses on various specialty areas, and is a pre-requisite for doctoral-level nursing education. M.Sc. in Nursing will equip B.Sc. Nurses and Post Basic B.Sc. Nurses to become advanced clinicians, evidence-based researchers, skilled administrators, and creative teachers, using innovative methodologies in nursing education, nursing practice and nursing research. The program helps students to build their specialization across nursing areas viz. child health nursing, community health nursing, medical surgical nursing, mental health nursing and obstetric &gynaecological nursing.

Child Health Nursing
- Develop expertise and in-depth understanding of Paediatric Nursing.
- Apply the concepts of growth & development in providing care to the paediatric clients
- Identify sick newborns in all settings and make appropriate referrals.
- Recognize & manage emergencies in neonates and incorporate evidence based nursing practice
- Develop skills as neonatal & paediatric nurse specialist, paediatric nursing educator, manager and researcher.
- Identify the areas of research in the field of pediatric and neonatal nursing.
Community Health Nursing
- Develop comprehensive understanding and expertise in the field of Community Health Nursing.
- Put in practice the concepts of preventive, curative & rehabilitative aspects of health while providing care to the people
- Recognize & participate in the management of emergencies, epidemics & disasters
- Participate in planning, implementation & evaluation of various national health and family welfare programs at local, state and national level, etc.
- Appreciate holistic life style of individual, families, groups and develop skills to function as community health nursing specialist/practitioner.
- Function as an educationalist, manager and researcher in the field of community health and community health nursing facilities
Medical Surgical Nursing
- Build expertise and in depth knowledge in Medical Surgical Nursing in the areas, such as Cardiology, Critical Care Nursing, Oncology and Neurology etc.
- Prepare a design for layout & management of Medical-Surgical units – Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) etc.
- Perform physical and psychosocial assessment of patients with various Medical-Surgical conditions
- Describe various recent technologies & treatment modalities in the management of patients.
- Become a specialized Medical-Surgical nurse in Cardiology, Critical Care Unit, Oncology and Neurology etc.
- Become a specialized teacher, administrator and researcher in the field of Medical-Surgical Nursing.
Mental Health Nursing
- Build proficiency in Psychiatric Nursing.
- Gain knowledge and understanding of the trends and issues in the field of psychiatrics & psychiatric nursing.
- Develop understanding of the concepts of psychobiology in mental disorders and its implications for psychiatric nursing
- Demonstrate therapeutic communication skills in all interactions, promote self-esteem of clients, others and self, etc.
- Further advance expertise through research and/or build careers in education / healthcare industry etc.
Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing
- Build expertise in Obstetric & Gynaecological Nursing and function as an independent midwifery practitioner.
- Understand the concepts of biophysical, psychological & spiritual aspects of normal pregnancy, labor and puerperium.
- Identify and analyze the deviations from normal birth process & refer appropriately.
- Counsel adolescents, women and families on issues pertaining to pregnancy, child birth & lactation, etc.
- Be an educator, manager and researcher in the field of Obstetric and Gynaecological nursing

Eligibility Criteria M.Sc. Nursing
M.SC. Nursing:
Duration: Two years (4 semesters)
Candidate should have passed Basic B.Sc./ Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (Regular or recognized IGNOU Center) with minimum 55% aggregate marks and should be registered in parent Nursing Council after Basic B.Sc. or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing. The candidate should have a minimum of one year work experience.
