On the occasion of National Pharmacy Week 2024, the Himalayan School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, an academic constituent unit of Swami Rama Himalayan University,
hosted an enriching guest lecture by Dr. Pankaj Prasad Raturi, Head of Bio-Resource Development at Dabur Research & Development Centre, Ghaziabad.
The lecture, held on 28th November 2024, focused on the significant role of medicinal and aromatic plants in the pharmaceutical industry and the
innovative approaches to sustainable practices in natural product research and development.

Dr. Raturi began the lecture by emphasizing the critical role that medicinal and aromatic plants play in the global pharmaceutical industry.
These plants, often rich in bioactive compounds, form the foundation for many life-saving drugs and therapeutic products.
In particular, Dr. Raturi highlighted the importance of bio-resources in traditional medicine systems, such as Ayurveda, and how these resources
are gaining increasing attention in modern drug discovery processes.

He explained that medicinal and aromatic plants have been used for centuries, with their value only now being fully recognized by modern scientific research.
With the growing interest in alternative medicine and natural remedies, the demand for such plants is on the rise, making the need for their
sustainable cultivation even more critical. He also shared examples of successful R&D projects that have focused on improving the agro-techniques
used for cultivating these plants. For instance, his work at Dabur has led to the development of specialized farming techniques that ensure
higher productivity, disease resistance, and better-quality plant outputs.

In closing, Dr. Raturi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to speak at the event and reiterated his commitment to advancing the
development of sustainable practices in the natural product industry. The lecture was a valuable learning experience.
