National online CME “Reversing Diabetes: A Road to Remission”
On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, the Department of Physiology, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Swami Rama Himalayan University along with Association of Physiologists of India (ASSOPI), organized a national online CME on the theme “Reversing Diabetes: A Road to Remission”. The CME started with the blessings of HH. Dr. Swami Rama, the Founder of the institute. Dr. Vijay Dhasmana, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the university, Pro-Vice Chancellor conveyed their wishes for the event. All the faculty members of the Department of Physiology, HIMS, Dr. Abha Shrivastava (Prof. & Head), Dr. Brijesh Purwar (Professor), Dr. Jyoti Dvivedi (Professor), Dr. Yogesh Saxena (Professor), Dr. Anupama Nautiyal (Associate Professor), Dr. Mohd. Yusuf (Assistant Professor), Dr. Dipak Kumar Dhar (Assistant Professor) were present on the occasion. The occasion was graced by Prof. Dr. Ashok Kumar Deorari, Principal, HIMS and Prof. Dr. Renu Dhasmana, HOD, Ophthalmology and Vice Principal (PG). Prof. G.K. Pal, Executive Director, AIIMS Patna & General Secretary, ASSOPI graced the occasion & addressed the gathering. Prof. Dr. Narsingh Verma, HOD Physiology, KGMU and President, ASSOPI, also added lustre to the occasion with his address and took a scientific session. There were 6 scientific sessions and 12 nationally acclaimed physiologists and guest speakers like Prof. Pravati Pal, Prof. Latika Mohan, Prof. Chinmay Shah deliberated on various aspects. Prof. Dr. Renu Dhasmana discussed about the never perspectives and lesser known facts about diabetic retinopathy. Prof. Dr. Hemant Nautiyal emphasized on the role of bariatric surgery in patients having both diabetes and obesity. Around 200 participants nationwide actively took part in the scientific sessions. The CME dwelled at enhancing understanding and creating awareness about how obesity and Diabetes are interlinked and how lifestyle of the modern day contributes to the development of both. It also explored the new avenues in diabetic retinopathy, exercise prescriptions and scope of bariatric surgery. Apart from scientific deliberations, there was a student e-poster session where the top-3 finalists among the students presented their posters made with digital art in front of the audience. The CME was widely lauded by the participants & speakers and everyone appreciated the newer perspectives and facts that were revealed and discussed.
