Department of Pathology has the infrastructure to enable research based on Histopathology & Cytopathology. The department has the facility of rapid biopsy reporting by frozen section technique. Immunohistochemistry section has extensive panels of monoclonal antibodies.
Targeted Research Areas in Immunology:
T cell subsets especially T regulatory cells.
Myeloid derived suppressor cells.
Monocyte subset analysis
Plasmacytoid Dendritic cells
immunopathology of autoimmunity
Primary immunodeficiency disorders.
Tumours and immunity : local anti-tumour immune responses.
Research Facilities: Department hashematology analysers& light microscopy. The focus has been to explore the utility of analyser based VCS technology for prediction of etiology in various febrile illnesses in neonates and adults (especially neutrophilic fluorescence in sepsis). The coagulation lab analysers are currently integral to ongoing projects centered on Hemophilia. Various clinical scoring system, mixing studies and factor assays are helpful modalities in the lab.The lab is enriched with 8 fluorescence multi parameter flow cytometry facility which is being utilized currently for leukemia / lymphoma characterization and monitoring. The instrument is indispensable for bone marrow transplant program. The facility has been used for lymphocytes subset analysis as part of various projects. The flow cytometer was also used for circulating myeloma cells.
